Chinese collaborative-robot maker JAKA publicly rejected Teradyne Robotics' 28 August announcement of a patent-infringement case against it, in a statement given to The Robot Report and published on 3 September. Its position is not that the patents are invalid. It is that there is no case.

The claim being made

JAKA's statement is specific and dated: "As of 02.09.2026, no court proceedings concerning the alleged patent infringement have been filed or opened against JAKA." The company says it holds more than 300 granted patents worldwide and commissioned two independent freedom-to-operate analyses before entering Europe, neither of which flagged infringement.

Teradyne's answer

Attributed to David Brandt, VP of R&D and CTO at Universal Robots, the response is that the case is filed in Copenhagen courts and "they should receive it shortly" — and, on the freedom-to-operate work, that "they have apparently not done a very good job if they failed to identify our patents." That concedes the timing point while disputing the substance.

The independent check came up empty

The publishing outlet states that it had not located court documents confirming the filing as of publication. No patent numbers have been named by either side. So the only parties asserting the case exists are Teradyne and its counsel, and the only public evidence is an announcement.

What the received framing gets wrong

The August cycle reported "Teradyne sues JAKA" as settled fact across seventeen EU countries. The supportable statement is that Teradyne announced a suit; its existence in the Unified Patent Court record remains unverified in public. The second error is in reading JAKA's response as a patent defence. It is not — JAKA says it has gone to court seeking injunctive relief against Teradyne's public statements, a different cause of action that does not test a single patent claim.
