Salesforce reported second-quarter fiscal 2027 results on 26 August at 20:05 UTC. Total revenue was $11.3bn, up 11% year over year and in constant currency, and full-year guidance was raised to $46.1bn–$46.4bn. The number the market will carry is the AI one: combined ARR of nearly $3.9bn, up over 210%. Three things sit underneath it.
It is two products, not one
The $3.9bn is Agentforce and Data 360 together. Salesforce also discloses the split: Agentforce ARR on its own exceeded $1.5bn, up over 240%. That means roughly $2.4bn of the headline figure — around 62% — is Data 360, the data platform. Data 360 is a genuine and fast-growing business, but it is not an agent product, and reporting the combined figure as "Agentforce revenue" attributes to the agent line more than twice what the company says it earned.
What the common framing gets wrong
The 210% growth rate is being read as organic demand for AI agents. The release contains a sentence that qualifies it directly: "Effective Q2 FY27, Agentforce ARR includes our AI offerings, Slackbot and Headless 360." The definition of the metric changed in the quarter being reported. When products are added to the numerator of a growth figure mid-series, part of the growth is arithmetic rather than commercial. Salesforce is disclosing this plainly — the sentence is in the release — but a year-over-year percentage computed across a definitional change is not comparing like with like, and none of the coverage quoting 210% is saying so.
Acquired revenue in the top line
The same release attributes $456m of total revenue and $440m of subscription and support revenue to Informatica, the data-management company Salesforce acquired. Against total revenue growth of 11% on a base of roughly $10.2bn, that $456m is a substantial share of the increment. Informatica is also a data platform, which is the same category as the larger half of the AI ARR figure — so acquisition contributes to both the top line and, indirectly, to the metric being presented as AI momentum.
What would settle it
The disclosure that would resolve all of this is an Agentforce ARR series computed on a consistent definition across at least four quarters, separated from Data 360 and from acquired contribution. Salesforce discloses enough to know that the headline overstates the agent business; it does not disclose enough to say by how much on a like-for-like basis. Until it does, $1.5bn is the number with a name attached to an agent product, and $3.9bn is a category.
