LG and Nvidia signed a memorandum of understanding at Nvidia's Santa Clara headquarters, announced late on 13 August US time, covering robotics, AI infrastructure and autonomous vehicles.
The robot
A next-generation bipedal humanoid built on Nvidia's Isaac GR00T humanoid foundation model, running Jetson Thor onboard compute, with Halos for Robotics handling safety. Unveiling is set for Q1 2027. Nearer term, LG's wheel-based CLOiD robot goes onto the washing-machine line at its Tennessee plant within 2026 — the only deployment in the announcement with a date this year.
Who builds which part
LG Electronics supplies actuators and sensors, LG Innotek components, LG Energy Solution batteries, and LG CNS PhysicalWorks a robot data platform. That split is the substantive claim in the release: LG is proposing to build the physical stack of a humanoid across four affiliates while Nvidia supplies the model and the silicon.
The infrastructure half
An AI factory at Cheonan at 80 MW scale, operational by H1 2028, built on Nvidia's DSX platform, with a Vera Rubin reference site in H1 2027. On mobility, the two will work on Nvidia's DRIVE Hyperion AI-defined vehicle platform.
What an MOU is and is not
It is not a binding contract, and no contract value was disclosed. What the document actually establishes is a joint task force of technical and business staff to drive implementation across research, validation and commercialisation. Jensen Huang's quoted framing — combining "LG's leadership in product engineering and manufacturing with NVIDIA technology" — describes an intention, not a purchase order.
How to read the dates
Every headline element is future-tense: humanoid unveiled Q1 2027, reference site H1 2027, factory H1 2028. An unveiling is not a shipment, so the humanoid is at least two product steps away from doing work. The only near-term item is CLOiD on a production line this year, and that is a wheeled robot, not the bipedal machine the announcement leads with.
