Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked in London on July 22 doubled as a Google AI launch. The new Z Fold 8 ($1,900), Z Fold 8 Ultra ($2,100) and Z Flip 8 ($1,200) are the first devices to ship with Gemini Nano 4, Google's newest on-device model — built on Gemma 4, supporting more than 140 languages with upgraded multimodal understanding. All ship August 7.
'Gemini Intelligence' arrives
Google wrapped its assistant ambitions in new branding: Gemini Intelligence. The flagship feature chains multi-step tasks across more than 40 popular apps — booking dinner, ordering delivery, buying tickets — with the user confirming the final step. The features require 12GB+ of RAM; more (Create My Widget, Gboard Rambler, smarter Autofill) roll out later.
Sweeteners in the box
Gemini Notebook — the renamed NotebookLM — comes preinstalled on the foldables, and every Fold 8 and Flip 8 includes six months of Google AI Pro. The new Galaxy Watch 9 ($380+) activates Gemini when you raise your wrist — no wake word.
Glasses, previewed not launched
Samsung and Google showed a fresh peek at their still-unnamed Android XR smart glasses — Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1, nine-hour battery, case recharges — arriving fall 2026, alongside confirmed Gentle Monster and Warby Parker intelligent eyewear on the same timeline.
The strategy
Apple's AI reboot remains a work in progress, and Google is using Samsung's hardware to make agentic Android the default experience hundreds of millions of users meet first.
