HD Hyundai Heavy Industries said on 10 August that it has signed a 956bn won (about US$674m) contract with Corban Energy Group of the United States to supply roughly 1,000 MW of generating capacity for American data centres. It is the largest power-engine order in the company's history.

The unit maths

The capacity is built from HD Hyundai's HiMSEN reciprocating engines rated at 9.6 MW each, which puts the order at well over a hundred units. It surpasses the previous record set in April 2026: 627.1bn won for 684 MW with Aperion Energy Group. Both companies said they intend to pursue follow-on projects.

Why reciprocating engines

Engines of this class are chosen for speed, not efficiency. They can be trucked in, sited and started far faster than a combined-cycle plant, and they do not require a grid interconnection that in parts of the US now takes years. Buying one is a decision to stop waiting for the utility.

Who is actually behind it

Not disclosed. The end user is characterised only as "a US big tech company" — there is no basis for attaching a hyperscaler's name to it, and Corban is an energy-infrastructure developer, not the operator of the data centre.

What 1 GW here does and does not mean

This is nameplate engine capacity sold, not contracted grid power and not an energised load. No site, no delivery timeline and no energisation date were given. The contract itself is signed rather than an MOU — but what is confirmed is an equipment order, and the data centre it is meant to feed remains unconfirmed.
