Docusign reported second-quarter fiscal 2027 results on 3 September, with revenue of $875.7m, up 9%, and its AI-led Intelligent Agreement Management platform at 15.1% of total annual recurring revenue, up from 12.6% three months earlier. The metric is the problem.

A share of a number that is never given

Total ARR does not appear in dollars anywhere in the release — not in the highlights, not in the metrics, not in the guidance table. Neither do billings, dollar net retention or customer counts. Because IAM is published only as a percentage, a rising share is arithmetically indistinguishable from legacy e-signature ARR shrinking. There is no way to separate growth from mix without the dollar base, and the company does not supply it.

The guidance says the re-platforming has not moved the rate

Docusign guides full-year fiscal 2027 revenue to $3,499m–$3,507m, about 9% at the midpoint, and ARR growth of 8.50% to 9.00%. That is statistically identical to the growth the company printed before it had an AI story at all. Two years into the rollout, the first-order test of whether agentic software lifts a mature SaaS growth rate returns no.

The rest of the quarter

GAAP operating margin was 13.4%, against 8.1% a year earlier; non-GAAP 31.6% against 29.8%. GAAP diluted EPS was $0.40 and non-GAAP $1.16, with free cash flow of $296m, or 34% of revenue. The AI language is specific — "our AI agents are now securely executing contract workflows end-to-end", new agentic tools powered by Docusign's contract-specific AI, pre-built agents for agreement intake and vendor renewal, and an Agent Studio.

What the received framing gets wrong

Coverage reads this as IAM ARR accelerating. It is not an ARR figure at all. Two further details cut against the acceleration story: the company guides IAM to 18% to 19% of total ARR exiting Q4, which means it expects roughly 81% of ARR to still be non-IAM at the end of the year; and the 9% revenue growth includes "approximately 1.3% from the impact of foreign exchange rates", putting organic growth under 8%.
